didn't put it on their list of must see's and here's why. You have
everything the majority of buyers are looking for in a home 3 bedrooms,
two baths, two car garage and sufficient square footage, perfect open
floor plan but they just don't want to see it because they can't get
past the John Deer tractor wallpaper and are not going to labor through
taking it down, they really don't like red walls in the dining room
either and that is more work to make it their home. The pictures look as
if the house is smaller than the listing sheet says because the walls
are covered with shelves of your collectables everywhere or they can't
see themselves in a purple kitchen with lime green cabinets.
Sellers please listen to me when I say this is not to knock your
decorating style it's your home do what you like but when you put a for
sale in your yard it ceases to be your home it becomes merchandise for
sale. Yes you do have some work to do if you want to attract the most
buyers thereby raising your odds of selling. You have to take the
wallpaper down, you have to paint everything in neutral non-combative
colors and you must put your collect-ables in boxes to go to your next
home.
Buyers find the homes they want to look at through pictures and if
they don't like the pictures they don't like your home and will not
bother to come look at it in person and see that it really is the right
home for them. They have busy lives and don't have time to remodel

You want your home to reflect your personality and we all have our
own unique style. We want the things we love around us. When we are
selling a home we want exactly the opposite of that. We want to appeal
to all types of people and no specific style. We're selling the bones of
the home the skeleton if you will. To make a home camera ready to sell
it needs to be uncluttered and neutral.
I tell my sellers to start packing because you're going to be moving
out. Living in a home that is for sale is not easy, you will have to
live with just the bare bone basics around you and a couple of things
in each room so the home will look inviting but no personal items and no
clutter in sight or out of sight. That includes cabinets
and closets.
Clear out all the extra dishes out of your cabinets, out of
season clothes from the closets, towels & sheets from linen closet.
Yes buyers look there too and want to see lots of room to store their
things.
Remove dried or silk flower arrangements and other decorative
items. A couple of live plants are fine.
Please, please remove all the
art and magnets from the front of the refrigerator, we all love our
children's art and the magnets might come in handy but these things are
personal taste and are to distracting to buyers. Most buyers are not
decorators and most don't have a flair for decorating so they can't
mentally remove your things and replace them with theirs.
If there is
too much of you in the home and they don't like your style it will
influence them negatively.
