History

Laurens South Carolina and is located in the western part of South Carolina and is part of the Old Ninety Six Historic district and may have originally called Laurensville and was named after Henry Laurens  president of The Continentail Congress during the Revolutionary War and can boast that Andrew Johnson 17th President of United States, Govenor of Tennessee and Vice President under Abraham Lincoln, once owned a tailor shop on the square in Laurens. A replica of that shop is now under construction.

Laurens was once the hub of manufacturing in the area but most of these types of businesses have closed down and the Walmart Distribution facility is now the major employer.

Laurens County School District 55 is comprised of seven schools and approximately 6,300 elementary and secondary school students

Laurens County School District 56 serves Clinton SC and surrounding area  is comprised of four elementary and three secondary schools with around 3500 students.

Laurens Academy private school grades 4K -12 with college preparatory curriculum has non- demoninational Christian emphasis

Thornwell Home And School For Children a Presbyterian ministry with around 250 students 4K-12  an accredited Southern Association of Colleges & Schools.

Colleges and Technical Schools

Presbyterian College founded in 1880 and one of the top colleges in the country a fully accredited 4 year private liberal arts university.
