Greenwood County is characterized by  natural beauty, economic strength and friendly,down-to-earth residents. The natural surroundings consist of rolling hills, pine trees, stunning lake waters and meandering streams.Lake Greenwood,
Greenwood State
Park and Sumter National Forest are all located within county lines. Surprisingly, alongside  these expansive natural areas, the industry of Greenwood County thrives. The primary economic activities are textiles, health care, manufacturing and transportation. Many consider the foundation of the region’s economic success to be the strong work ethic and sense of community among early settlers;these qualities are still part of the Greenwood culture today. Five local governments exist within the county: Greenwood is in the center and has the densest  population. Hodges and Ware Shoals are north of Greenwood city; Ninety Six is east and Troy is southwest. Education is provided by three public school districts
Greenwood District 50, Ware Shoals District 51 and Ninety Six
District 52), several private schools and Lander University for recreation, residents enjoy staying active outdoors. The region’s mild climate is well suited for year-round
golf, hiking, biking and golf. Athletic facilities and water sports are available at Lake Greenwood State Park.
